Bolton Wanderers Football Club is an English football club based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. They were founder members of the Football League in 1888. Bolton have had most success as a cup side, winning the FA Cup 3 times in the 1920s and a fourth in 1958. They have the rather unwanted record of spending the most seasons in the top flight without actually winning it- 70, at the end of the 2008/09 season.
Bolton play their home games at the 29,000 seater Reebok Stadium, having moved there in 1997, just 10 years after being mired in the 4th division. The move was made after 102 years at their old ground, Burnden Park. Since the move, Bolton qualified for European competition for the first time, reaching the last 32 of the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League) in the 2005/06 season. They went one better in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup tournament, reaching the last 16 after memorable results including a 2-2 draw with German giants Bayern Munich and a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid. |
