Bristol City are one of two professional league sides in the English city of Bristol, the other being bitter rivals Bristol Rovers. The club were founded in 1897. 1907 saw the best league finish in the club's history- second in Division One, then the top division in England. Their trophies have come from winning lower divisions, and, in 1934, the Welsh Cup... despite being an English team. They reached the FA Cup final for the only time in 1909, losing by a single goal to Manchester United.
Bristol City were the first team to suffer 3 consecutive relegations, doing so in the early 1980s. The club have slowly climbed back to reach the Championship in 2007, even reaching the playoff final, losing it to Hull City. The club's nickname is the Robins. A robin used to feature on the club's badge until the redesign in 1994. An attempt at changing the badge again was vociferously criticised by fans, and the plans to do so were abandoned. |
