Burnley Football Club is a professional English football club. Nicknamed 'The Clarets' because of their club colours, claret and blue, they are based in Burnley, Lancashire. They play their home games at Turf Moor, and have done since 1883 - before the formation of the Football League, in 1888, which they, as founder members, had a hand in.
Burnley have a good history with regards to trophies- they are one of only 3 teams to have won all of the top 4 of England's professional divisions. They have won the top division twice, in 1921 and 1960, and the FA Cup once, in 1914. In 2009 they won promotion to the Premier League for the first time since its formation (and the first time in the top division for 33 years) by beating Sheffield United 1-0 in the Championship Playoff Final. |
