Crystal Palace are a London football club who were founded in 1905. A key role in the club's formation was played by Edmund Goodman, an Aston Villa employee who was recommended to the club in it's early days by the then Villa chairman. Crystal Palace's traditional home colours are claret and blue, just like Villa, in honour of this.
The club have not won any major domestic or European honours, but have won the second tier of English football twice- in 1978-79 and 1993-94, and were runners-up in the 1990 FA Cup final, losing 1-0 in the replay that followed an epic 3-3 extra-time draw with Manchester United. Famous former players include BBC pundit Mark Bright and Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright. Palace are renowned for their youth academy- arguably one of the finest in English football. |
