Doncaster Rovers are an English professional football club based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. They play their home games at the Keepmoat Stadium, having moved there in 2007 from their previous, smaller stadium, Belle Vue. The club were founded in 1879, as a way of capitalising on the popularity of the game that was emerging in Yorkshire at the time.
Doncaster played their first league game in 1901, after being elected to the league, but only lasted two seasons before being relegated to the regional leagues again. Interestingly, Doncaster Rovers hold the records for both most wins in a league season (33 in 1946-47, on the way to winning the Third Division North title) and most losses in a season (34, in 1997-98, finishing dead last in Division Three and being relegated to Conference football |
