Manchester City are an English football club based in Manchester. The club have spent the majority of their history in the top flight of English football- although they have not won any major honours since their 1976 League Cup triumph. This decline led to two relegations in 3 years in the 1990s, including a one year stay in the second division - England's third tier- for the 1998-99 season. More recently, the club were bought out by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, resulting in an influx of cash, and subsequently, high profile players.
Manchester City's most successful spell came in the late 1960s and early to mid 1970s, when they won multiple major trophies with a great team containing such club legends as Colin Bell and Francis Lee.
Manchester City traditionally play in sky blue, and the club crest was recently replaced with a more modern version (seen on the right) as the older one was not eligible to be trademarked. |
