Nottingham Forest are an English football club, who play at the City Ground in the suburbs of Nottingham. Their name is derived not from Sherwood Forest, which is where Robin Hood once roamed, but from the Forest Recreation Ground. This was where Nottingham Forest played their first games after their formation in 1865. The club carries the moniker on their crest.
The club have a very illustrious history, having won the League championship, 2 League cups and 2 European Cups in a glorious period under Brian Clough in the late 70s. The club have won 2 more League cups and 2 FA cups at other times in their history. At the time of writing, Forest are the only former winners of the European Cup that are currently playing outside their domestic top flight. An interesting bit of trivia: Forest played in the first ever match to use goal nets, in 1890. |
