Preston North End are a Lancastrian football club playing in the English football league. They were founded in 1881, and were founder members of the Football League in 1888- in fact, they won the first football league season, becoming the first ever league champions of England, not losing a single game in the process- a feat only Arsenal have matched (although Arsenal's was achieved in a 20-team league to Preston's 12).

Preston were the first English league team to win the FA Cup and league 'Double', doing so in the 1888-89 season. They won the league again the following year, but have not done so since. The last time they won a major trophy was their second FA Cup win in 1938 (the first coming as part of their Double in 1889). The club traditionally play in white, giving rise to their nickname, the Lillywhites.
