Tottenham Hotspur, more commonly known by their nickname of 'Spurs', are a North London based English professional football team. Tottenham have the proud record of having won a major honour in each of the last 6 decades- only Manchester United can boast the same achievement. Spurs were the first club in the 20th century to complete the prestigious 'double' - the FA Cup and League championship - doing so in the 1960-61 season. They were also the fist British club to win a major European trophy- the Cup Winners Cup- in 1963.
The current club crest, featuring a cockerel standing on a football, was adopted in 2006 as a modernised version of the previous badge, which had been emblazoned on club merchandise since 1983. The club's motto is 'Audere est Facere' - literally, 'to dare is to do'. The motto does not feature on the latest crest but was visible on its predecessor. |
