Watford are an English football club based in Hertfordshire. The club was founded in 1881 and played their first home games at the Cassio Road ground, before moving to Vicarage Road in 1922, where they have remained to this day. They have shared this ground with Saracens Rugby Club since 1997. The club's biggest rivalry is the one with neighbours Luton Town.
The club's most successful periods have come under the management of Graham Taylor. In 1977, he took over the management of the club, which was in the Fourth Division. When he left in 1987, the club was in the First Division, had an FA Cup (in 1984) to its name and had played European football in the UEFA Cup. His second stint (1997-2001) saw the club rise from Divison Two to the Premier League. The club's most famous fan was also owner at this time - Reg Dwight, better known as Elton John. He is now the club's honorary life president. |
