West Bromwich Albion, best known by their abbreviated name West Brom, are a West Midlands professional football club. The club was formed in 1878, under the name West Bromwich Strollers, and were founder members of the football league in 1888. They have won the league championship once, in the 1919-20 season, but have won the FA Cup five times. The most recent FA Cup triumph came in 1968 - the club's last major honour. They won the League cup in 1966 too.
The team have traditionally played in their home kit of navy and white stripes for most of its history. It has a number of long standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs- most notably Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with whom they contest the Black Country Derby. They have played at their home ground of the Hawthorns (28,000 seats) since 1900. |
